This beautiful watercolor masterpeice by professor Ping-Guang Zhou symbolically represents peace, prosperity, auspiciousness, and longevity. By displaying its fine tail feathers, the peacock - a very auspicious creature in Chinese tradition - symbolizes a prosperous future. The Chinese peonies that are composed underneath the golden pheasant are “giving added grace to what is already beautiful”. A pair of Asiatic Paradise Flycatchers on top of a rock represent longevity. And lastly, the Blue Titmouse jumping among the Chinese wisterias symbolizes abundance and prosperity in the future. This is Professor Ping's favorite and most poetically beautiful work of art.Taking him over six months to create, it has won many awards and has been exhibited in shows throughout the world.

Professor Ping Guang Zhou

Professor Ping -Guang Zhou, a senior-level scholar in Chinese painting, emigrated from China in 1998 as one of China's outstanding artists. His father, Zhou Qi-he was a master of Sichuan opera and a friend of many notable Chinese artists including Xu Bei-hong, Fu Bao-shi and Zhang Da-qian. Growing up, Professor Ping-Guang Zhou was surrounded by the paintings of these masters and encouraged to study traditional Chinese painting under the tutorship of Zhang Cai-qin and Zhao Yun-yu. Professor Ping Guang Zhou, who lives in California now, is particularly known for his bird and flower paintings, which he executes in part in the "gongbi" manner - a highly realistic style characterized by fine brushwork and close attention to detail. However, his own rich imagination often fills the backgrounds of his paintings of parrots, peacocks, plum blossoms and peonies with dreamlike elements. He paints while listening to Sichuan opera music, so this may account for the magical quality of many of his works. Over the years, Professor Ping Guang Zhou has had personal exhibitions in Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany, Malaysia, Canada and the United States, and has received many awards for his elegant artworks.
