Li Zhe,
master of realism, is extensively immersed in the painting techniques
of European Classicism. His still lifes offer us meticulous attention
to detail, painted with unrelenting accuracy.
Born of parents
who are professors of Chinese literature, his home-life as a child
was one of classical education and appreciation for masterful
works of science, art, literature and the old masters. Zhe's love
of art encouraged him to enter China's only Military Art School
at a young and tender age. Soon disillusioned by the propaganda
and strict guidelines that the government enforced, he left the
Military Art School and joined the PLA Art Academy in 1985. His
paintings are now on permanent exhibition in the Navy Political
Bureau of the People's Liberation Army as well as other, numerous
exhibitions throughout the world. After the artistic education
that the PLA offered, fame soon spread on an international basis
and he was quickly exalted to Professor of Fine Art at the Art
College in Bengbu, Anhui Province, where he has taught and lectured
for 18 years. His international exhibitions have taken place in
Australia, San Francisco - USA, Toronto - Canada, England, Spain,
Italy and now Laguna Beach! Li Zhe's refined and classic style
is one of elegance. Tastefully arranged compositions, adorned
with intricately engraved Chinese antiques, speak of an era gone
by. The textiles of vibrantly colored silk, beautifully embroidered
with the forbidden "blind stitch", remind us of a Shangri-La and
a mythical land that is spoken of respectfully in hushed words.
