Abstracts

The past several years I have developed a body of narrative work where dynamic figurative images combine with emotionally spiritual themes, grounded in the best of the Europe's academic traditions. Most recently my narratives deal with the paradox within the divine, in respect to how people act upon receiving divine inspiration. My skepticism over modern religion compelled me to visually explore religious intent in ambiguously pregnant moments as a way to enlighten my own thoughts, inspire dialogue, and, explore a culture of spiritual violence. I have spent the last several summers studying at Europe's major museums in Italy, Austria, England, France, Czech Republic, and The Netherlands, while researching the way the European Masters depicted the spiritual reality of their time. My travels across Europe inspired a look into my own cultures diverse interpretation of faith. I want to portray my impressions of a contemporary spirituality or lack thereof. It is important to me that these works are not dominated by obvious religious criticisms, but rather, highlights the ambiguous paradox between divine inspiration and our very human interpretations.
